Overview
There are many opportunities to taste wine and to learn about the different grapes and regions that produce wine, but this class focuses on the fascinating history of some of the world’s most famous wines in order to understand how they became what they are. Contrary to popular wisdom, the wines we drink are not exactly ancient; they begin in a particular place bound by geology and geography, but they have evolved due to changes in religion and aesthetics, war and taxation, agronomy and technology, class structure and gender roles, and much else besides. Students in this class will never look at wine in quite the same way as they did before.
