Overview

Destinations:

The legacy of great performances is alive and well at Yale where a passion for drama is in our DNA. Indulge your love of the opera with Yale Alumni College this August, on a five-day excursion to the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, New York. Glimmerglass is dedicated to innovating new, little known and familiar operas and musical theater productions. We’ll be seeing mainstage productions of Carmen, Tenor Overboard, The Sound of Music, and a double bill including Holy Ground and Taking Up Serpents. Our faculty leader for this trip will be Ethan Heard ’07, ’13 MFA founding co-artistic director of Heartbeat Opera and current teacher of acting and directing at Yale.

Francesca Zambello, artistic and general director of the Glimmerglass Festival, among other key festival speakers, will offer in-depth discussions to the group. Take an exclusive behind the scenes tour of the opera house and enjoy the open-air design and magnificent acoustics of the theater which allows for each opera to be heard crisp, clear, and unamplified--as it was intended.

Come for the Opera, but also enjoy the many treasures that Cooperstown has to offer. Our accommodations will be at the Otesaga Resort, overlooking Lake Otsego. The picturesque views and exquisite amenities leave nothing to be desired.
