Overview

Destinations:

Join us in northern Spain in 2026 to witness a Total Solar Eclipse as it crosses the Iberian Peninsula. Our exclusive viewing location in the Castille-Leon region is perfectly situated along the eclipse`s path of totality, allowing us to experience a minute and 44 seconds of complete darkness. Every total solar eclipse is a breathtaking event, but the one in 2026, promises to be particularly remarkable as it coincides with peak solar activity in the Sun’s eleven-year cycle, creating the chance to see the solar corona at its most magnificent. Moreover, our eclipse experience will culminate in a stunning sunset view of the Moon’s “last bite” of the Sun, hovering just above the local horizon. Enhanced atmospheric scattering will amplify the colors of the surrounding horizon, while the Sun will seem magnified due to the “moon illusion.”

The program begins in Santiago de Compostela the final destination for pilgrims walking the Route of St. James. Stay at the historic Parador de Santiago Compostela, a destination unto itself, situated next to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, one of the most visited cathedrals in the world. Continue via Astorga, a town at the crossroads of the Camino de Santiago pilgrims’ route and the Roman Silver Road, to the beautiful city of Leon, our base for the eclipse as it is on the path of totality with the best chances for clear skies. Stay at the beautiful Parador de Leon, a 12th century convent converted into a luxury hotel. View the eclipse from the comfort of the Leyenda del Paramo Winery, and after the eclipse, witness the peak night of the Perseid meteor shower, the strongest meteor shower of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, thanks to the dark skies of our rural location. Conclude the trip in Bilbao with visits to the city’s old quarter and the spectacular Guggenheim Museum, designed by Frank Gehry. Your hotel is located across the street form the Guggenheim.

A three-night pre-trip extension to Porto, Portugal is also available.
