Journey with professor Andrei Harwell to Morocco, crossroads of the Arab East and the Western Mediterranean. Here, the mix of Mediterranean, Arabic, Andalusian and Berber influences has given rise to a rich and colorful architectural heritage. Together with classmates from the Yale School of Architecture and Yale friends old and new, you’ll explore ancient cities, fortified walls, desert oases and wondrous ruins. The earthy scent of saffron, the kaleidoscope of colorful carpets, mountains, mosques, and more will ignite your imagination as you venture through the medinas, bustling squares and sprawling palaces, getting an insider’s experience that has been custom curated especially for our Yale group. The itinerary begins in bustling Marrakech and travels along rugged coastlines, across snow-capped mountain peaks and into the shifting sands of the Sahara desert.

Program highlights include:


  • Touring Morocco’s imperial cities including the medinas of 9th-century Fes, the stimulating and multifaceted 11th-century Marrakech, and the stately modern capital and historic city of Rabat.

  • Exploring the beautiful town of Chefchaouen is known as `The Blue Pearl` of Morocco.

  • Visiting the Roman ruins of Volubilis, designated a UNESCO world heritage site for its role as commercial center in the 3rd Century A.D.

  • Crossing the Atlas Mountains to arrive at an oasis in Erfoud.

  • Camping out with your Berber guides under the inky saharan sky.
